Family Project - Build a Leprechaun Trap

By Beth Neely, publisher of Macaroni Kid Rancho Cucamonga March 12, 2021

Did you know that if you trap a Leprechaun, he HAS to grant you 3 wishes?

We built this Leprechaun Trap out of items we found around the house. When choosing your supplies, keep in mind that the leprechaun’s LOVE gold and green!

For this leprechaun trap we used:

  • A small box
  • Green Streamers
  • Green paper
  • Green Fabric
  • Cut up construction Paper
  • Cotton Balls
  • Paper Straws for the ladder
  • Gold coins - you can use chocolate foil-wrapped coins
  • Glue stick and kid-friendly glue gun

Directions:

First, we covered the box with green streamer paper and glued it in place. Then we cut a piece of paper and made slits in the top to catch the leprechaun and laid a piece of thin green fabric over the top. We made a rainbow from cut-up construction paper and glued them together. At the ends, we glued cotton balls so it would stand up on its own and gently placed the rainbow on the top over the slit, then laid down gold coins to fool the leprechaun. For the ladder, we cut up pieces of paper straws and glued them together to make a way for the leprechaun to reach the gold under the rainbow.

Have fun and may the luck of the Irish be with you!
