Make the Best Banana Pudding!

Get your kids in the kitchen

May 23, 2020

Every week, my daughter Kate has a virtual baking class with her Nana & her cousin. My mom emails me and my sisters all the ingredients early in the week and then walks them step by step through some of her long-time family recipes she made for us growing up.  They have the best time together, chopping, mixing, and being silly as they cook/bake together. I know it will be a memory that she will never forget.

One of the most recent recipes they made was my mom's banana pudding! It has been a favorite growing up and super simple to make!

You’ll need:

  • 1 (8 oz) container frozen whipped topping, be sure to thaw it ahead of time
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 1 (5 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 (16 oz) package vanilla wafer cookies
  • 4 bananas, peeled and sliced

With a mixer or whisk combine sour cream, whipped topping, pudding mix, and milk. Mix until all combined and there are no lumps.

Now to start layering your dessert. Using a glass trifle bowl or other glass serving dish, put a layer of the cookies on the bottom and up the sides. Then add a layer of your pudding mixture. Then top the pudding with a layer of sliced bananas. Repeat until all ingredients are used. We crushed up extra wafer cookies for the topping. Refrigerate until serving.

Tip: Another option is to omit the sour cream and make the vanilla pudding as directed on the box and then layer the cookies, then vanilla pudding, then whipped cream and then bananas!
