DIY Holiday Gift Wrap

By Mary Monahan December 14, 2014
I am a holiday card hoarder. Last week while decorating the tree, my husband found all of the Christmas cards from last year in our ornament box. I just cannot throw them out.

Then I read about upcycling last year's holiday cards into wrapping paper and I loved it! You can get one more use out of those beautiful cards.

What You Need: scissors, glue, tape, paper bags or brown craft paper, ribbon

Step 1: Collect all the cards and cut out your favorite images, letters, sayings from the cards. We cut out pictures of snowflakes, Santa, and sayings like "Merry Christmas,” "Good Tidings,” and "Joy!" Below are some of our favorites.

Step 2: Wrap your presents in brown craft paper or paper bags from the grocery store. I save ours from the grocery store and use them to wrap gifts all year round.

Step 3: Glue the card scraps onto the packaging. Voila! You have gorgeous paper with an individual touch from your family.

And a couple more DIY options: Stamp the paper with holiday shapes. Use stamps you have on hand or create your own with sponges or other items. Pick a few favorite colors of paint and be creative! No two gifts will look the same, and that’s what makes them so special! If you have a creative tween or teen hand them a a fine tip black marker and ask them to make their own wrapping paper on the brown paper. The paper becomes their canvas!
